A Plea for Prayer”

It was during the crisis period that 81 year-old Benjamin Franklin made his famous plea for prayer:

“Gentlemen, Gentlemen, the little progress we have made in the last weeks is a melancholy proof of the imperfections of the human understanding; groping as it were in the dark, how has it happened that we have not sought the Father of lights to illuminate our understanding? In the beginning of the war with Britain we had daily prayer in this [very] room, and asked for divine protection. Our prayers were heard; and they were graciously answered. And have we now forgotten that powerful Friend? Or do we imagine that we no longer need
